Alina Korneeva spoke about the operation on her left hand, which she underwent in April. In September, Korneeva returned to competition and at her first tournament - WTA 250 in Monastir - she reached the doubles final. At the next tournament, the ITF 100, 000th tournament prediction by sport news in Portugal, she won the singles title.- How is your rehabilitation going or was it going, what are your immediate plans?
- I started rehabilitation in February. I was injured in February. For a very long time we thought about what it was and what to do with it. At first I did plasma, they even injected me with two plasmas. . .
- What is this?
- This is when my blood was taken from here, from a vein (points to the left forearm) and injected here (points to the left hand).
- Is this to somehow relieve inflammation?
- Yes, yes, because I had a lot of inflammation and swelling. They removed the inflammation, did an MRI and eventually saw that I had problems with the tendon. We went to Barcelona to see Angel Cotorro, this is Nadal`s personal doctor for a long time, and he just operated on me. He immediately said that we need to have an operation, we consulted with many doctors in Europe, and everyone said that this is a popular topic in tennis and in any case we need to have an operation.
- Popular injury, you mean?
- Yes, yes. I had [the surgery] at the beginning of April. Then I wore a cast for a very long time, flew here to Moscow and then returned to the academy again. And my rehabilitation began very slowly, really very slowly: each movement needs to be done for two weeks, and in total the rehabilitation takes three months.
- You are generally such a joyful child, you smile all the time and talk so casually about a really very difficult period of your life, about trauma. But, probably, when you were told that there had to be an operation, the emotions were completely different?
- Yes, yes.
- Did you cry?
- Yes, very much. Because at first I wasn`t ready for this at all. I`m 16 years old, what kind of surgery? Can I inject another plasma? What if there is another way out? Everyone said that 100% [they need surgery]. And I already understand that that`s it, my six months are definitely gone. I immediately think: well, I`ll be able to play somewhere around August, September. And that was a difficult moment.
- So, what is Alina Korneeva doing on the court now?
- I train very little (laughs). I trained for two months at the academy, an hour a day. I could play tennis for an hour a day and only with my right hand, and without moving this hand at all. I couldn`t serve, but I could do general physical training, so I did a lot of general physical training for two months.
- What did these two months give you or, on the contrary, take away?
- They probably gave us life experience: the first thing is that injuries cannot be avoided. And the fact that I am of such an age that there will be injuries, they are and will be. They probably explained to me that the main thing is not to rush, because I`m the kind of person who really likes to hit the ground running and say: let`s start doing something. They constantly stop me, and my parents always said: don`t rush at this time, at this age, it`s better to fully recover and then play longer than you will constantly have some kind of pain. And this is probably the most important experience that I have already understood, " Korneeva said in an interview with More! .
